4th of July Fishing Frenzy

July 14th, 2013

Got another late season group here with us at Hooked on Panama Lodge.

Mark, Peggy, James and Joanne from Texas.

First day started slow,  but by mid afternoon the bite was on.  Ended up
with 8 yellowfin tuna in the 40lb. range and 2 roosters on the way home.  One
rooster topped out at 70lbs.

Yesterday they decided to stick near shore.  13 roosters released,  one
nice cubera snapper came in for dinner and a mixed bag of other reef stuff to
boot.  The 13 roosters in one day is a new lodge record:):)

Tuna & Roosterfishing

July 14th, 2013

We have Dan and Judy Hunsaker here with us right now from Tucson Arizona.
They are doing a 6 day fishing experience.  The first 2 days were a bit slow.
Only one rooster per day.  I kept telling Dan,  not to worry,  they are out
there.  After that,  the bite turned on again.  Big yellow fin tuna and large
dorado to boot.  Pics below.

The crew estimated the biggest tuna at around 220lbs.  :):):)  Dan says he is
pretty much done with that:)  They went back to near shore fishing for their
last day today.

They leave us tomorrow:(,  but they are staying another day here in Panama.
Doing a scenic trip up through the town of Volcan and then on to spend the
night in Boquete.  A beautiful town on the slopes of Volcan Baru.  The 11,000
foot volcano you can see from the lodge.  The next day,  they are going to do
the zip line in the rain forest before heading back to Panama City and then
home.

The meals were awesome.  So much so,  that the entire lodge gave Margot,  our
chef,  a standing ovation.
These two were so much fun and we are going to miss them when they leave

Tony Pena’s Trestimonial

July 14th, 2013

Tony left us with a nice testimonial for the lodge.  It is quoted below.

” I have visited Hooked on Panama Lodge three times and they were all

great experiences.  This May 13th to 16th. 2013 had quality fishing with a

350lb. Black Marlin ( released by my brother Armand) on a Moldcraft-ballyhoo

combination.  This rig is a lodge secret and it is very effective on most

pelagic species and can be more productive than live bait.

The lodge boats are the softest riding hulls in the Gulf of Chiriqui

and I have ridden on all of them.  Live bait is available most of the time
which
means you get more fishing time on the water.  The boat crews are
friendly,
experienced and fast.  Some of the best in Panama.

The lodge itself is only six years old and is a first class resort with

a swimming pool, great food, excellent staff and amiable ownership in
Captain
Dan Peavy who always seems to be helping guest.

I have fished in 18 countries and I can say that Hooked on Panama is

one of my favorite destinations for fishing, relaxing and just having a good

time.”

Tony Pena – The Roving Angler

Tony,  thank you very much for the for the fantastic review

20 Sails and countless Dorado

July 14th, 2013

We still have Gary and Sheryl Meyer with us at the lodge.  This week they
are fishing with another couple, Bill and Kim Salow.  And of course,  Bad Betty
Rewalt is still here with them.

Over a couple of days they raised about 20 sails,  releasing three.  One of
them was around 150lbs.

They then came up on a floater, and the action was on.
Now, I know they aren’t monsters or anything, all around 5 to 10lbs,  but
catching around 30 dorado on fly equipment was a kick in the pants.  Don’t
worry,  we released most of them.

Today they decided to head out to Isla Ladrones for the big tuna.  The
radio yesterday was going crazy,  yesterday,  saying the bite is on.  So,  I’ll
have more info at the end of the day today.

The Sailfish are a Jumpin’

February 12th, 2009

What a trip we had in mid- January. I filmed a TV show with Joe Rossi from Joe’s Wildside.Together we had enough action for three shows. My first fish was a 9ft. Sail estimated at 120 LB. fallowed by several Bull Dorado’s.

We saw over 20 junpers, the sails were breaker the water all over the Humps . The great thing about this Lodge is that we are allowed to fish both Costa Rica & Panama Waters. The next days was even better then the first with 13 year  old Chase Todd from Davie, Florida catching a nice Sail and then on day three catching his first rooster fish. his Dad Gerald caught 2 Sails & a 50 LB. Tuna. The 3 days trip totaled 16 Sails, 5 Tuna & countless Dorado

5 roosters & 1 Black Marlin.” What a Trip”.

Boy! did we eat alot of Tuna & MahiMahi.

Perpared & Served by Host & Chef Joe Rossi himself.

The fishing is red hot right now , join and take advantage of our Prime Season specials.

Good Fish’,
